We are looking for committed and technically focused Geotechnical Research Placement Student to join our growing team. The focus of this role is on research and development activities within Geowynd and supporting leading specialists in the group to develop and test new geo-tools. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist on live offshore wind projects. The start date for the placement role is May/June 2023 for a term of 3 to 6 months.

 

The successful candidate will join the data analytics and advice team at Geowynd and support the delivery of technical research work packages related to the interpretation of geotechnical data and the design of fixed-bottom and floating support structures for offshore wind turbines.

We are looking for an ambitious Geotechnical Research Placement Student with an innovative mindset to help deliver our key research and development projects.

 

Work Country: UK (Glasgow, London, Oxford, Southampton)

Work Location: Onsite

 

What will you do:

    • Testing of recently developed cyclic soil models using finite element analysis packages

    • Assisting in the development of a robust training dataset of FEA-based soil reaction curves for use in a machine learning algorithm

    • Assisting in development of robust geotechnical interpretive automation tools which include a statistical approach to parameter selection and with a focus on calibration of appropriate soil models.

    • Assisting with geotechnical project scopes of work including but limited to: interpretation of geotechnical parameters and foundation design calculations.

    • Complying with in-house management system policies, practices, programs, and procedures.

 

Who you are:

    • An excellent understanding of soil mechanics.

    • A sound knowledge of geotechnical engineering fundamentals

    • Fluency with written and spoken English and excellent communication skills.

    • Excellent report writing and presentation skills

    • Excellent planning and organisation skills required for our fast-paced environment

    • An innovative and creative approach to problem solving

    • Undertaking a master’s degree or higher in geotechnical/civil engineering (or similar)

 

Desirable:

    • Previous work experience (placement) in geotechnical engineering setting

    • Proven ability to perform in a deadline environment

    • Experience using finite element analysis software (Plaxis)

    • Coding in Python and/or Matlab

    • Understanding of artificial intelligence algorithms
